BREATHE….

I was talking with a dear friend yesterday about the dynamics of romantic relationships. We were discussing the inevitable ups and downs and how to consciously communicate with your partner from a place of love (not always easy).

He’s been married for over 30 years and I asked him about how he’s had so much success in his relationship and he shared one practice with me. Whenever he gets in his head about stuff and is trying to be loving (with his partner or himself), but he’s struggling to get out of the various stories his mind is telling him, he focuses on his breath. He brings his full awareness to his breathing and whenever he gets distracted by the mind he brings his focus back to the breath.

Yes! Breath focus is one of the easiest, most effective meditation techniques. Why not use it in this way?

Focusing on the breath helps one to connect with the present moment and the heart field – and just BE with what is. So give yourself the gift of breath today and focus on your breathing when you get triggered in one way or another. Gradually, as you do this more and more, you’ll train yourself to let go of illusory stories (blame, worry, fear) and shift into greater present moment awareness and heart-connection.
